Transfers to Bansko: prices for the 2026/27 season

The Bansko ski season runs from December to April, and the question we are asked most often — from September onwards — is always the same one: what does it cost to get from Sofia Airport to Bansko, and how long does it take. This page answers with specific figures for 2026/27 rather than a range, and explains what moves them.

Every price is per car, not per person, and includes VAT, road tolls and fees. It is what you pay.

What a transfer to Bansko costs

• Sofia Airport – Bansko — 160 km, about 2 h 05. From EUR 250 (EQE), EUR 325 (EQV), EUR 362 (EQS).
• Sofia city – Bansko — 155 km, about 1 h 55. From EUR 243 (EQE), EUR 315 (EQV), EUR 351 (EQS).

The gap between the two is small, because the distance barely differs. If you are landing and heading straight for the mountain, book the transfer to Bansko rather than into Sofia and out again next morning — the direct fare is lower than two legs and saves you a night with luggage.

How the price is built

The fare is calculated from road distance and from the time the journey takes, not from a flat per-kilometre rate. The per-kilometre rate steps down with distance: the first 40 km at the full rate, the next hundred at 70 per cent of it, the band after that at half.

Time is in the formula and Bansko is exactly why. The route is 160 km — barely more than Plovdiv — but the last hour is mountain road through Simitli and Razlog. A price built on distance alone would undercharge this journey and then recover it somewhere less visible.

Which car to choose for a ski trip

Here the answer is less open than on an ordinary transfer: skis and snowboards do not fit in a saloon.

• EQV — 5 passengers, 5 large bags. The only class that takes ski equipment comfortably. For a group with skis, this is the car.
• EQE — 3 passengers, 2 large bags. Fine if you are renting equipment in Bansko and travelling with suitcases only.
• EQS — 3 passengers, 2 large bags. The same capacity as the EQE in a more formal car.

Say at booking that you are bringing skis or a board. It is a decision made when you book, not on the pavement outside the terminal.

For longer winter journeys or particular requests, other Mercedes classes — S-Class, V-Class, G-Class — are available on request and arranged at booking rather than chosen online.

Winter changes the route

Between December and March the last stretch can be snow-covered even when Sofia is clear. Two practical consequences.

First, allow more time than the summer figure suggests. Do not book a return transfer that leaves you at the airport with forty minutes to spare — the mountain section comes at the start of the run back to Sofia, when nothing has been made up yet.

Second, the return is the more important of the two. Arriving in Bansko an hour late is an inconvenience. Leaving Bansko an hour late can be a missed flight.

What is included

The quoted price covers VAT, road tolls and fees, bottled water and waiting time within the allowances. There is no airport surcharge, no night rate, no baggage charge and no adjustment on arrival. If the road is slow because of the weather, the price does not move.

• 60 minutes of free waiting on an airport pickup, measured from the actual landing time.
• 15 minutes on a pickup from a hotel or address in Bansko.
• Free cancellation up to one hour before the scheduled time.
• Flight tracking — a delayed flight moves the pickup automatically, with no call and no fee.

When to book

The technical minimum is three hours before pickup. For the ski season that number means very little.

December, early January and the weeks around school holidays are when the cars are committed earliest. For a Saturday transfer in the middle of the season a week's notice is realistic; for a weekday in early December, three days is enough.

If you know the return date, book both legs at once. It is not cheaper, but it removes the case where the return occurs to you on Sunday evening.

The other ski resorts

Bansko is the most requested, not the only one.

• Sofia Airport – Borovets — 68 km, about 1 h 10. From EUR 142 (EQE), EUR 185 (EQV), EUR 206 (EQS). The nearest major resort to Sofia.

Common questions

Is the price per person?

Per car. Four people to Bansko in an EQV share one fare of EUR 325; they do not pay EUR 325 each.

Is there room for skis?

In the EQV, yes — comfortably, alongside luggage for five. In the EQE and EQS, no. Say what you are carrying at booking and the right car is assigned.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

The flight is tracked and the pickup moves with it. Airport pickups include 60 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time, so an hour's delay asks nothing of you.

Can we stop on the way?

Put it in the notes when you book and we will come back with the price and the timing beforehand. The online fare covers a direct journey.

Can I pay cash on arrival?

No. Booking and payment are completed online by card in advance — that is what makes the price fixed and lets the chauffeur be assigned to your flight.
