Car Hire with a Driver in Sofia: Proms, Milestones and Special Days

Hiring a car with a driver for a prom, a milestone birthday or an anniversary is a different job from a transfer, and it is priced and planned differently. A transfer moves you from one place to another. An occasion needs the car to be yours for the evening — to wait outside while photographs happen, to still be there when the plan changes, and to take everybody home at the end.

Here is how to arrange it so it works, with the arithmetic that decides how long to book for.

Why a prom is not a transfer

A graduation ball looks like two journeys and is really about six. There is the collection, which never happens at the stated time because eight people are getting ready in four houses. There is the photograph stop, which always takes longer than planned. There is the arrival, which is the part that matters. Then there is the evening, and then there is getting home.

Booked as separate transfers, each of those is a car that has to be found again, and the price of the last one is set by how late it is. Booked as a block of hours, it is one car, one chauffeur, one number to call, and one price agreed before the evening starts.

What it costs, and how many hours

Hourly hire is EUR 55 an hour for the EQE, EUR 65 for the EQV and EUR 105 for the EQS, with a one-hour minimum. Every fare includes VAT, tolls and fees.

Realistic blocks, from what these evenings actually look like:

• Arrival only — collection, photographs, arrival at the venue. Two to three hours.
• Arrival and return — the same, with the car coming back at the end of the night. Four to six hours, depending on the gap.
• The whole evening — the car stays with the group throughout. Six hours or more, and the simplest of the three to run.

If the gap between arrival and the end of the night is long, two shorter bookings can cost less than one continuous block. Tell us the timings and we will say which way round is cheaper rather than let you book the expensive version by default.

Which car

The classes you book online are electric Mercedes, and the choice is mostly about how many people are travelling together. For an occasion where a particular car is the point — an S-Class, a V-Class, a G-Class — ask when you book; those are arranged rather than selected online.

• EQV — 5 passengers. The one for a group who want to arrive together, and the reason most prom bookings are an EQV.
• EQS — 3 passengers. The formal arrival, and the car to book if the photographs at the door are the point.
• EQE — 3 passengers. The sensible choice for a couple, or for a second car alongside an EQV.

For a group of eight, two EQVs beats three smaller cars — fewer cars means fewer ways for one of them to be the late one, and everybody arrives in the same shot.

What parents usually want to know

Most prom bookings are made by a parent, and the questions are always the same three.

Who is driving? A professional chauffeur, assigned to the booking in advance rather than dispatched on the night, with a name and a phone number that appear in the confirmation email.

What if the night runs long? With an hourly booking, extra time is added at the same hourly rate. There is no penalty for the evening overrunning, which is the main reason to book it this way.

Will they actually get home? That is the leg to book first and the one people leave to chance. A car arranged in advance for 01:00 is a different proposition from finding transport at 01:00.

One contact for the evening is worth setting up: a parent's number for the arrangement, and the student's number for the chauffeur. The person the driver needs to reach is the one standing outside.

A prom evening, costed

Six friends, two pickup addresses, photographs at a park, the venue at 19:00, home at about 01:00.

Booked as hours: an EQV from 17:30 to 20:00 for the collection, photographs and arrival, then again from 00:30 to 01:30 for the way home. Three and a half hours at EUR 65 is EUR 227.50, split six ways.

Booked as one continuous block: 17:30 to 01:30 is eight hours at EUR 65, EUR 520 — more expensive, but the car and the same chauffeur are there all evening, including for the person who wants to leave at 22:00.

Which is right depends on whether anybody needs the car during the gap. If nobody does, split it. Tell us the timings and we will say which way is cheaper for your evening rather than quote the larger one by default.

Other occasions

The same structure covers most celebrations. A milestone birthday dinner where the car waits. An anniversary where somebody should not be driving home. A christening or a graduation with family arriving from out of town. A proposal, where the timing is the entire point and cannot be left to an app.

In each case the question is the same one: does the car need to wait? If it does, book hours. If it genuinely does not, book the journey and pay less.

Booking it properly

An occasion booking is worth more detail than a transfer. Put these in the notes:

• Every pickup address, in full, and the order you want them in.
• How many people at each stop.
• The one time that cannot move — the venue arrival, usually.
• Whether the car is waiting or returning later.
• Anything travelling that is not a person: flowers, a cake, a change of clothes.

Book early. Prom season and the December holidays are the two windows where cars are committed weeks ahead, and the three-hour technical minimum is irrelevant to an evening that has been in the diary since March.

Common questions

Can we choose the exact car?

You book a class, and the class is guaranteed. If seeing the specific car matters, ask when you book rather than hope on the night.

Can the car make several stops?

With an hourly booking, yes — that is what the hours are for. Give us the addresses in order when you book so the block is long enough.

Is there a charge if we run over?

Additional time is charged at the same hourly rate. Nothing punitive, and no surprise at the end.

Can a parent book and pay without travelling?

Yes. Book in your own name, put the passenger's name and phone number in the notes, and the confirmation comes to you.

Are there rules about what happens in the car?

The ordinary ones: seat belts, no smoking, and nothing that would make the car unusable for the next booking. Chauffeurs are there to run the evening smoothly, not to police it.
