# Transfer to Pamporovo and Chepelare from Sofia Airport

Private chauffeur transfer from Sofia Airport to Pamporovo and Chepelare: route, travel time, space for skis and luggage, fixed price agreed in advance.

Pamporovo and Chepelare are around 240–250 km from Sofia Airport. The road runs through Plovdiv, Asenovgrad and the Rhodopes, with the last 80 km or so being mountain driving — tight bends, passes and winter road surfaces. This is a distance best covered by private transfer: you get in at the terminal exit and get out in front of your hotel, with no changes, no waiting at a bus station and no driving yourself after a night flight.

LuxLane arranges transfers from Sofia to both resorts throughout the winter season, and in summer as well for mountain holidays, cycling and hiking.

## The route from Sofia Airport to Pamporovo
The standard route is along the Trakia motorway to Plovdiv, then south through Asenovgrad and the valley of the Chaya river towards Narechenski Bani, Hvoyna, Chepelare and finally Pamporovo. Chepelare lies about 10 km before the resort, so transfers to either address follow practically the same road.

The first half of the journey is motorway and passes quickly. The second half is mountain driving — a road with many bends, speed limits and often lower temperatures than in Sofia. The drivers who work this direction know the stretches where ice builds up in winter, and drive to the road surface rather than to a schedule.

A short stop can be made on request — the Bachkovo Monastery is almost on the way, and there are convenient places for coffee in Asenovgrad or Chepelare. If you are planning a stop, say so when booking so it can be built into the route.

## How long the journey takes
In normal conditions the drive from Sofia Airport to Pamporovo takes around three and a half to four hours, and slightly less to Chepelare. That is a guide, not a promise: in winter, snowfall, restricted passage through the mountain section or traffic around Plovdiv can make it longer.

For that reason, on return flights we always plan departure from the resort with time to spare. It is better to wait calmly in the terminal than to make up time on an icy Rhodope road.

## Meeting you at the airport
The driver tracks your flight number and adjusts the meeting time if you land late or early — without you having to call from the plane.

The meeting takes place in the arrivals hall, with a name sign. This applies to Terminal 2, where most international flights land, and to Terminal 1. The driver helps with luggage to the car, which is parked nearby rather than several stops away.

If you are travelling as a group and arriving on different flights, it is usually more practical to make one booking with a suitable departure time than two separate transfers.

## Which car to choose for a ski trip
Three electric Mercedes classes can be booked online:

- **EQE** — for two passengers with normal luggage. Suitable if your ski equipment is rented in the resort.
- **EQS** — more space and comfort for a long mountain drive, for two to three passengers.
- **EQV** — the van. The logical choice for a family or group with skis, snowboards and bulky suitcases.
On request, outside the online booking, an S-Class, V-Class, G-Class, Maybach or Rolls-Royce can be arranged. For long winter routes in the mountains, the G-Class and V-Class are a frequent request — write to us and we will quote.

One important point: note in your request how many pairs of skis or snowboards you are bringing. Ski bags take up the space of a whole suitcase and make the difference between a comfortable and a cramped journey. If you are travelling with small children, tell us their ages so we can prepare suitable seats.

## Winter conditions on the road to the Rhodopes
The Asenovgrad – Chepelare – Pamporovo stretch is a mountain road that is maintained, but in heavy snowfall it may require slow driving or a short wait for a snow plough. Cars for this direction have winter tyres and chains in the boot for the worst case.

A few practical things:

- Do not leave your jacket and hat in your suitcase — if we stop in the Rhodopes, the temperature is different from the one at the airport.
- The road has bends. If one of the passengers suffers from travel sickness, tell the driver — a calm driving style and a short stop help.
- Mobile coverage in part of the valley is unreliable. Confirm the exact hotel address in advance, not by phone on the move.

## Price and booking conditions
The price is **fixed and agreed before the journey** — per car, not per person. There is no meter and the amount does not change if the road turns out to be slower than expected or if your flight lands an hour late.

It includes the airport meeting, the waiting time, road tolls along the route and help with luggage. Three or four passengers in one van pay one price, not four.

The other conditions are simple:

- The booking is made at least **3 hours** before the pick-up time.
- Cancellation or changes **free of charge up to 12 hours** before the agreed time.
- Online booking is for pick-up in Sofia and at Sofia Airport. For departures from Pamporovo, Chepelare or any other point outside Sofia we quote by arrangement.

## The return transfer to the airport
The return from Pamporovo or Chepelare to Sofia is arranged in the same way, but as a request by arrangement, since the starting point is outside Sofia. Plan it in advance — on the last day of a season week, cars in the resort are busy.

A practical rule: for a morning flight from Sofia, departure from Pamporovo is still in the dark. A night-time mountain road is slower and colder. If the flight is very early, it is sometimes more sensible to spend the night in Sofia and leave from your hotel.

## The alternatives and when they are worth it
There are bus services to Pamporovo, but almost all require a change in Plovdiv or Smolyan, do not leave from the terminal and do not take ski bags gladly. With all your equipment and with children, this makes for a long day.

A rental car gives freedom in the resort, but it means driving 250 km yourself, 80 of them mountain roads, probably after a night flight and probably in snow. If you are not planning daily trips outside the resort, a transfer covers the need more calmly.

A taxi from the airport over such a distance is possible, but the price is formed by the meter and is known only at the end of the journey. With a transfer the amount is known before departure.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can we stop for shopping on the way?
Yes. A short stop in Plovdiv or Asenovgrad for food and drinks is planned in advance so that it is part of the route.

### Can one transfer serve two addresses?
Yes, if they are in the same direction — for example a drop-off in Chepelare and continuing to a hotel in Pamporovo. State both addresses in your request.

### What happens if my flight is delayed?
The meeting time is adjusted to the actual landing. There is no need to make a new booking.

### How is the car confirmed?
We confirm the class of car you have chosen and a driver suited to it. A specific car or a specific person is not set aside in advance.

For a transfer to Pamporovo or Chepelare, enter the date, time and number of passengers in the booking form, or write to us if you need a car on request, a return trip from the resort or a combined route through other Rhodope villages.
